Road Safety The Next Steps

When the Department of Transport Published its road safety plan in 1987 many thought that a large reduction in road casualties at a time of traffic growth would be too ambitious. Also expecting so much of the saving to come from vehicle design improvements was thought by many to be unrealistic.

  • I have been trying to track this down for months – even the DfT do not have a copy. This history is so important in helping to understand the approach to road safety today and how we deal with the stagnating rates of death and increases in serious injury on Britain’s roads. Thank you so much!
