Expanding Affordable Bus Network Coverage
We have a new government with a clear mandate to improve bus services. The Scottish Government has made specific commitments to reduce fares for more travellers, and to strengthen leadership by transport authorities. What is not yet clear is exactly how an affordable approach can be identified to deliver these goals. How can STSG help government to achieve its democratic commitment in a practical and inclusive way that strengthens Scotland?
STSG’s mission is to bring clarity to complex Scottish transport debates, so we are organising a round table discussion on [22nd] June in Perth between 12 noon and 2pm. Expanding affordable bus network coverage involves complex trade offs to attract more investment to help providers and users of services to achieve their goals. We are bringing together leading professionals to explore the options including experts with experience of both urban and rural bus service delivery and have been involved in designing fare capping experiments. We hope that the team planning this event will be joined by experts from across the country so we have chosen Perth as easy to access from the north and the central belt. Lunch will be provided.
STSG caps our regular round tables at no more than 20 people so please let us know if you would like to attend as soon as possible by e-mailing us.
The proceedings of the round table will be written up and presented at an STSG meeting later in the year and published at the STSG website.
