Scotland’s buses in a new era

STSG is 40 years old in 2024. The 2024 AGM was held on 9th December at 12:30 by Zoom. The annual report and accounts are published here.
The speaker at this year’s meeting was Chris Cheek. Chris has worked in the public transport industry for over 50 years, the last 36 as an author, analyst and consultant. If the founders of STSG in 1984 wanted better informed debate about the opportunities for Scottish transport, then 40 years later the recent publication of Chris’s new book “Britain’s Buses in a new Era” would be exactly the type of evidence they were seeking.
The video of the presentation is here (please note the first 45 seconds are without sound). Chris’s presentation slides are here.
Chris’s new book is hot off the press in October 2024 and reflects on how the bus sector has evolved to frame new analysis of practical future options. Chris will discuss the prospects for growing Scottish bus networks including the cost of bus fleet decarbonisation, and reviewing the prospects for investment to deliver a sustainable future through different policy and regulatory approaches. As a teaser for what to expect at the presentation read Roger French’s review of the book here. There will be opportunities for discussion at the end of the presentation.
